WELCOME TO DAKOTA SPIRIT!
Dakota Spirit began in 1996 with 12 young girls. It was South Dakota’s first youth cheerleading program and was founded by Robin Fritsch. The mission of the program is to promote physical, mental and spiritual development through cheerleading. The program emphasizes positive sportsmanship, character, and commitment.
Dakota Spirit has over 250 students participating on 12 teams, preschool through high school. Students can participate in a developmental league, recreation league or an All Star league. The program is open to all students and no experience is required to join the rec or developmental rec program.
In addition to the variety of teams, the curriculum includes tumbling classes, private lessons, Cheer University, and a strength and conditioning program. Dakota Spirit specializes in summer camps, clinics, and choreography camps for high school and all star teams.
Dakota Spirit is home to the region's largest cheer & dance competition, the Valentine’s Classic. The event is coordinated by the Booster Club which is also active in the promotion of the program and fundraising. The Booster Club hosts several events during the season including the Dakota Spirit Showdown (October) and Spiritfest (March).
